Pet Pals' dogs are the BEST!!

Pet Pals Logo

Welcome to Pet Pals' Large Dog Page

Our Pets TRULY receive SHELTER and are NEVER killed due to issues. We WORK with them. Once rehabilitated, our dogs DO need loving homes so we can train and save more!

While some rescues only take in adoptable pets, we take in those with health and temperament issues on death row. Please consider a donation to cover our expenses, thank you!

We can not save lives without your donations.

Joker! Joker! Joker! Joker!

It's GOT to be an April Fool's Day joke, right? We just took in three strays two days prior. Nope, no joke, in came Tricksey, Funny & their Grandfather, Joker. Okay, he might be a rich Uncle!

Oh MY, what an awesome boy. Joker was taking care of two puppies, Tricksey and Funny who have now been adopted. We had never seen a male dog act like a Mother before now.

Joker along with the puppies, were dumped in a small town. We are guessing him to be about five years old. He's very calm and loving. Whoever had him as a family member didn't train him, but he has been a fast learner and has already caught on to walking on a leash and crates when told. He just wants to please you. AWESOME fellow.

Are you an awesome family who would love a new family member? If so, please fill out an application, thank you! Donations made it possible to save him.

Update:
Joker gets along SO well with other dogs that he now has free roam of our facilities! We can't say that about many of our large dogs.

Come on people, seven strays and one abuse case came in within five days. Times are rough, but dumping a poor innocent pet is sickening.

The furkids are now ALL spayed and neutered thanks to our awesome supporters. Supporters truly make it possible to save lives, but our funds are now depleted. Sadly, the next strays may have to be turned away and taken to a kill facility. Even a few dollars helps us save lives. Won't you help?

Bongo Bongo Bongo Bongo

Another life was saved from a kill facility. His name is Bongo. He's like a lion from South Africa. Kind of acts like one too! When you become one of his "pride", he warms up and is very kissy!

Bongo is now neutered and is getting along surprisingly well with what we call our large pack of dogs.

Bongo has really changed and does what he is told. He's a pretty smart boy! He is smiling and happy that he was saved. Now that he is comfortable we can better assess his personality. He does want to eat bird and rabbits, but does not try to go over the fence. We were hoping he was allergic to small animals but this isn't the case. He's very allergic to cats and cannot be placed in a home with them!

Bongo would love to be your protector just like a Lion!!

Bongo the Lion!!

Dingo Dingo Dingo Dingo Dingo Dingo

Dingo is such a beautiful boy we couldn't decide which picture to show you!

If you don't think forwarding an e-mail doesn't help, think again. After receiving a forwarded e-mail three times, (one from Denver, CO, one from Grover, Colorado and one from Santa Fe, New Mexico) none of which was from the original poster, I knew someone wanted this dog saved. Perhaps it was a higher power. Here was the e-mail:

**URGENT**Dingo (name changed) is a 7 year old shepherd mix. We cannot put him up for adoption, so foster or rescue is his only option. He was owner surrendered because his previous owners claim he charged at someone, but he's been here since the 11th of January and we have not seen any aggression what-so-ever from him. He does very well with kids. He knows a few commands such as; "come", "shake", "down", "sit", "house", "lie down", "leash", and "stay". He can jump a six foot fence, hopefully that doesn't discourage anyone from fostering him. He is a very sweet boy once you get to know him. Hopefully you can find someone to help him out!
Please let me know if you need further information. Thank you so much for your help and consideration!

Here's what we have found out about Dingo. He is a 40 pound Velcro boy and wants to be with you nonstop. Dingo has NO aggression towards any other dogs or humans but has not been around cats and we feel would do best in a home without cats although we can test him in our room full of kitties, if needed. When he was tested with a cat in a crate he showed a lot of interest but we have seen this with cat friendly dogs when something alive was in a crate.

It is unknown what the previous owners meant by charging someone. Was he in a fenced in yard and wanting to protect it? Was he off leash and thought he was protecting his front yard? We have found in the past that some people get rid of their pets just so they will no longer be bothered by them and make up stories to ease their conscience. We are not saying this is the case here, but the owners certainly didn't bother making sure their family member was safe. Heck, they didn't even bother to trim his nails.

Dingo shakes hands very daintily but does not seem to actually know the words come, down, house/crate or stay. He does seem to be very smart and wants to please you. He never made a fuss when being microchipped or having his disgustingly long nails trimmed. Dingo also seems very housebroken and does not want to mark his territory. He is going to make some family an awesome family member.

Malone
Malone
Malone

Did you know some "Rescues" kill? The above boy would most likely have been killed at any facility in the entire state. This is mean 'ol Malone! This poor boy is not so nice and that's putting it mildly! We've named him Malone because he just wants left alone!

Malone was brought to Pet Pals after being picked up running along the highway as ANOTHER stray. He jumped in the man's vehicle and befriended him immediately. The man knew we were the only ones who would not kill him so he immediately brought him to Pet Pals at 5:30 in the evening..... So the story goes! Do we believe a dog that is this bad of a fear biter was handled by a stranger? Humm....NO WAY!

Anyway Malone wanted to eat us and was one of the worse cases of fear biting we have dealt with. It took over four days before we could touch him without using a catch pole. He has slowly warmed up but as of May 5, 2012, no one besides two immediate caregivers and one volunteer has been able to touch him and he has been at Pet Pals for over a year.

From the looks of Malone's neck it is obvious he was chained. When we tried to get him to play ball, he cowered like he had been beaten. At only about a year old from the looks of his teeth what could this boy do so wrong to be so fearful? Ones like him just break our hearts.

Malone is a McNab and Blue Heeler. Malone doesn't seem to know any commands. Malone brings to mind the TRUE meaning of a NO-KILL shelter or Rescue which we are, thanks to our wonderful donors, THANK YOU!

Fanny Fanny Fanny Fanny

ANOTHER STRAY brought to Pet Pals….Fanny is a puppy with a big fanny! She was born in January according to a neighbor. The neighbor also stated that the owner of Fanny's Mommy didn't know she was pregnant. Accidents happen all too often when people don't spay/neuter their pets. All the puppies froze to death except for two OR three?? Could this be the sibling of the dead one that was found on a county road on our home page?

It is only a guess as to her breed. Her Mother is an Australian Shepherd and we're guessing the father was Catahoula mix.

Fanny was very shy when she first came to Pet Pals, but now she warms up very fast when she knows it is okay for you to be here. She's on the protective side so if you need some protection, adopt Fanny!

Fanny LOVES to play with other dogs large and small. She is crate trained, knows come, sit, is leash trained and housebroken.

Rosie NEEDS friends.

UPDATE:
Rosie does not need further surgery at THIS time. Brought to Pet Pals as a stray, her owner was located and he was going to SHOOT her because he thought she was old due to her crippled steps. Luckily, she escaped her pen and he thought she had just gone off to die!

For more updates visit Rosie's Party Page, thank you!

Previously:
Rosie had her hips x-rayed June 9th. I've just been numb. She is in desperate need of double hip surgery. Rosie's hips are hereditary with the femur bone rubbing on the bone of her socket. She IS in pain but it doesn't show. I spoke to two different gals at The MaxFund. They have been excellent in the past helping our special needs furkids, but this time they are also very low on funds and cannot take her. I'm at a loss at what to do. We do not have the $2,000 needed for her surgery. There are several nonprofit groups who fund this sort of special needs, but I haven't had time to contact them. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Previously:
Sweet as the smell of a rose is Rosie! Rosie may have been hit by a car or she may have early arthritis. She appears on the young side. Her teeth look like she's only 3-5 years old. We will be having x-rays done on her hips when we have enough funds. She is not in pain, just wobbly.

If everyone reading this could just send a dollar or two, Rosie would certainly appreciate it.

Poor Rosie waited for her owner to come and claim her and they never showed up. Perhaps she was just tossed out like trash which so many pets are having done to them now days.

We will never know what really happened to Rosie other than some nice people in a town where she was a stray didn't want to send her to a pound that uses a gas chamber. She is very thankful for being brought to Pet Pals.

We are thankful for YOUR help.

Humphrey Humphrey Humphrey

"Okay, I will admit it, I was baaad... Bad to the Bone. My name is Humphrey and I was picked on by my sister so I started beating her up. Well, she called me names, stole my toys and was just a B, if you know what I mean.

I was only three years old and found myself at a kill facility. Lucky for me, I ended up at Pet Pals and I am learning social skills. I have enjoyed walking with other dogs and I'm learning that the world is not out to take my toys!

If you have patience with me, I promise to be a good boy. I already do what's asked of me and will climb into a bath tub! For some reason, I have learned to trust children more than adults, but if you baby talk to me, I will love you too. I have slight skin allergies which aren't a huge problem.

With a little love, I promise to be a good family member and will protect you, but I'm just so scared of this scary world.

Hugs & Slobbers,

Humphrey"

UPDATE:
Humphrey broke through a gate…in fact two gates and we found him playing with a small Pug! We moved the Pug and Humphrey broke through a gate and was playing with two other large dogs. He now plays with another large dog. Hum, perhaps he does get along with other dogs.

Humphrey has now been trained a number of tricks! He has also gained much needed weight and weighs in at 150 pounds. His allergies have also gone away now that he's on decent food!

UPDATE**

Humphrey is with Rosie and six other doggie friends! He is now almost six years old. Here are new pictures:

Clipper Clipper Clipper

LOOK, LOOK, LOOK at this BEAUTIFUL boy! His name is Clipper like a Clipper ship! "Beginning in the late 1840's American shipbuilders started to build a new kind of merchant vessel - the Clipper ship. Several qualities set the clipper ship apart from others sailing ships. A clipper was technically a sailing ship with three masts on which sat a large expanse of square sails. It was designed to carry a small, highly profitable cargo over long distances at high speeds."

Our Clipper is a purebred Great Dane who can also cover long distances on walks! He LOVES walks. He is about four years old and was relinquished because his family broke up and moved. His temporary home couldn't keep him because of his high prey drive towards chickens and other pets. He also wanted to protect his family from the bad evils of the world.

Clipper is an awesome big boy to have on your side of the fence! He will require a secure or electrified fence.

UPDATE:
Clipper has now put on some much needed weight and weighs in at 140 pounds!

Kujo Kujo Kujo

Beautiful 110 pound Kujo is a six year old Chesapeake Bay Retriever/Labrador Retriever mix. His family was moving into town and gave him up. Kujo was kept in an outside kennel which resulted in rainrott on his back. I wasn't joking when I said we've had LOTS of thunder storms rolling through every afternoon!

Kujo was scared and wanted to eat us and spit us out when he first came to our facility. Most facilities would have killed him without letting him out of the crate. After neutering, being socialized for a month, he is a LOVE. I still wouldn't advise anyone to walk into our yard if we aren't present! When you don't hear from us via E-mail, we are busy working with furry kids like Kujo.

Kujo gets along GREAT with other dogs and cats. Come and get to know him and you'll fall in love with him also!

UPDATE:
Kujo has now gained some much needed weight and now weighs 154 pounds! Here are new pictures of Kujo getting exercise!:

Lila Lila Lila

When a sobbing Mother calls saying her 21 year old son hung himself could we please take his dog, how could we say no? What this Mother is going through nobody should have to experience.

Delilah, we are calling Lila, just turned one year old a few days ago October 12th, the day her guardian hung himself. How sad.

Lila is a very scared little girl. One of her young family members thought it was a cute trick to teach her to growl so this she used to do frequently.

She gets along great with cats. We are working with Lila to get her housebroken. Lila has not had a single accident in her kennel.

Poor Lila is so scared. Can you help her and give her the home she deserves? If so, please fill out our automatic adoption application found on our home page.

Acey!

Click the above image to read about Acey's rescue. It is so amazing it deserves a web page all its own!

Acey is a LOVE. How people can shoot to end lives is beyond us.

Sheba Sheba Sheba

Meet Sheba. Sheba is a young girl of only about five years old. She was originally another STRAY. She was adopted and then returned to a kill facility .

Sheba will need new people who are the pack leaders and have followed the work and training of Cesar Millan (dog whisperer). This is going to be a requirement of her new people.

Sheba is a beautiful girl who only needs a home with people who understand what she has been through and are leaders.

Are you a leader?

Freezy Freezy

Freezy was brought to Pet Pals in the winter of 2009. Freezy was brought to us along with her two puppies all as strays. Flurry and Flicker were adopted.

Freezy has an injured lower lip. It appears that someone wrapped wire or tape around her lip. She also has cuts under her neck. Freezy's back bone and ribs stick out from starvation. Freezy is now wagging her tail.

She was found on County Road F. Let's see....It was freezing at only 9' and her boobies were frozen so the name Freezy came to mind! Her pups are now named Flurry (it was snowing) and Flicker (for the glint of hope they hung onto). And the person who did this also has a name starting with F (for obvious reasons), but I better not type it here. How could someone be SO cruel? Sick, sick, SICK

UPDATE: Freezy was adopted, but was returned because she didn't get along with horses. So, no livestock, please!

Freezy is also part monkey and will need a covered kennel. She is now about 2 ˝ years old. Here are new pictures of her before we started going on walks and getting more exercise!

Buffy
Buffy
Buffy

Another call for help resulted in Buffy coming to our shelter. (sigh) She was impounded as another STRAY and adopted out by another facility. Buffy was returned to them for being too loving! She only wanted to protect the children and adults in the home. Her new family did not want to work with her. Due to these issues, Pet Pals was called to help with her rescue. When some animal facilities call for our help, we know the dogs are very special.

Buffy we're guessing is six years old. After being here for a very long time, she's now on the fat side!

So far we have seen a little protectiveness but not anything major.

Buffy gets along with other dogs here wonderfully. She minds well and knows come, sit and does well on a leash. She does prefer women to men!

Gumbo IS a survivor!

Gumbo IS a survivor!

Gumbo was another STRAY. He has finally been adopted…..HURRAH!

Hudson Hudson Hudson

Brought to Pet Pals as another STRAY Hudson is an ACA purebred Canardly. You may click his pictures to read about the Canardly breed. Remember you read about the Canardly breed here FIRST! Other shelters may not know how to spell Canardly, but the breed is the same and we were the FIRST to recognize it as a breed!

Hudson pictured above HAS BEEN ADOPTED……HURRAH!!

The following furkids are a courtesy post. We try to help other people place their rescued pets in loving homes. Pets MUST be spayed or neutered prior to posting. Please contact the appropriate person not Pet Pals, Inc.

Please visit Petfinder.com and put in zip code 82217 to see our current courtesy posts, THANK YOU.

The following is for uneducated people who don't have their pets spayed or neutered. Their pet's chances of developing cancer go up ten fold.

Lady

UPDATE:

Lady's Story:

"I Was Loved"

My person let me have litter after litter of puppies
I Was Loved
At nine years old, I was bred but it didn't "take"
When I didn't feel well, I was given Motrin
I became very sick Motrin kills pets
I Was Loved
At nine 1/2 years old I was abandoned
Some nice ladies took me in
I Was Loved
At a vet's office I went to sleep
A big lump was going to be removed from my mouth
I was going to be spayed
I Was Loved
My ovaries were very very large
My uterus was attached to things it wasn't supposed to
Lumps were found on my internal organs
A mass was pushing against my kidneys
Had I been spayed years ago this would not have happened
My rescuers cry
Because I Was Truly Loved

Rest in Peace Sweet Lady
April 6, 2006 tears flowing
We deal with the heartache. You can help thru donations.

Lady's Cancerous Lump

What will it take to get people to SPAY/NEUTER their pets?

Cancer and other health problems are more prevalent in unaltered pets.

Another STRAY brought to Pet Pals. What did this pup do so horrible to be shot in the head? What did ANY of them do? We have now had FOUR dogs with bullet wounds.

Deena

ADOPTED........HURRAH!!! Click her picture to view other sad abuse cases.

This is Deena. She was just brought in as a dirty starved little girl. While removing mud on Deena, I found a bullet hole. Someone shot this puppy and left her for dead. Deena is VERY shy and has yet to make a peep. Appears to be a border collie and only 8-10 weeks old.

UPDATE:
See her NOW. Her new family says she is VERY much loved and has been just a perfect dog.
