With MUCH reservation I hit the send key after writing the following E-mail. (Not because I don't want Wyoming to FINALLY get recognized, but because I have a FULL plate here).....

Subj: Count Wyoming!

Tammy or whoever is reading this!
Add Wyoming. I have been trying to get permission to chain myself at Petco in Cheyenne, WY. What a rinky dink outfit. I have had promises of calls from District managers.... Marketing departments....I have filled out online forms....I have yet to get permission from them. :-(
Tuesday or Wednesday I will go to Cheyenne (130 mile trip) and find a place and let you know. I'm thinking the TV station parking lot! Because of the crime, whereabouts unknown and the rescues at my facility, I can only commit to being chained for eight hours on July 4th. But, hey, it's a start. Maybe next year I can have some people join me for 24 hours. This area is one of the worst for their respect and kindness for animals. Evident since cats are listed as a predator and can be shot on site per the Game and Fish Department.

Keep up the GREAT work! (I knew you when....) LOL

Dawn,
Sorry for the delay...Four babies were scheduled to be killed at a pound today and I took them in: See Pet Pals Babies. As you can tell by the time I hit send, it's getting late and I STILL have to upload pictures on Petfinder.
I received the okay around 5 P.M. ...HURRAH! I will be chained for eight hours at Capital Lumber, 1222 Dunn Ave, Cheyenne, WY. One NOTE: The lumber company will be closed on July 4th so I will be there on July 3rd. instead of the 4th. I went thru HELL trying to find a public place for the chain off.
Our closest newspaper (Torrington Telegram) called today wanting me to place an advertisement. They are going to do a story on Dogs Deserve Better....(BIG SMILE!) They want pictures (which I will send) if I don't think it's too demeaning for me! I told them heck no, it's for the animals. (It's also for Tammy Grimes. She is the BEST!)
Gotta get pictures and bios uploaded on Petfinder and write a press release about my Chain Off to everyone in my address book. I hope to get a lots of donations for Dogs Deserve Better. Then DDB can pay my hospital bill...(It's supposed to be over 100' on the 3rd.) JUST kidding, I have insurance! :-)

Keep up the GREAT work!

June 29, 2007

"Please come or sponsor" mass e-mails are sent. NO turning back now!

July 2, 2007

I run most of the day to get everything set for tomorrow's chain off. Not only the regular chores need done, but putting pet food in extra feed bowls so my husband, Larry, won't have so much work the following day. He has hired a substitute for the mail route. Thank you, Alan! It takes someone FULL time to keep up with all the work here.

Pam from Omaha comes for a visit and offers her help. Thank you Pam, you're an ANGEL!

The dog house is cleaned and prepared with a chain. Extra ice is readied for the cooler and the cameras are packed.

6 P.M.

Now to print the flyers with time to spare.
OH NO, the printer went belly up. (I really didn't say OH NO, forgive me!) A frantic phone call was made to Donna in Cheyenne. She came to the rescue and purchased a new printer and met me half way from Cheyenne (65 miles) to Pet Pals. Whew....HUGS, to Donna.

11:30 P.M.

Larry is still trying to get the new printer to work....CRAP!

Midnight:

Printer is working. A generous donation comes in via PayPal from Carol in Georgia thanking me for saving lives and having the courage to be chained to a dog house. Carol wants to help pay the vet bill for the new pups. THANK YOU Carol!

1:30 A.M.

Off to bed. Everything is set

July 3rd:

5 A.M. Alarm goes off.

6:30 A.M.

I'm off to Cheyenne. Shaky because I REALLY don't like doing public things like this!

7:00 A.M.

Half way to Cheyenne and I noticed coffee has spilled on my white pants and new blue Dogs Deserve Better shirt. Gosh, I wish I could quit shaking!

7:30 A.M.

Arrive at Ronda's house. She helps me clean the coffee off my clothes. Now it only looks like a peed my pants!

8 A.M.

Hurriedly set up the dog house.
A man crawls into the dog house. Too funny!

Linda York chained!

8:30 A.M.

I'm burning up in the hot sun. I'm ready to QUIT. I remove my heavy leather spiked collar that Ronda purchased thinking it was going to be so "cool". It HURTS, I'm sweating, I'm feeling sick.
I go to my van to get an umbrella. One minute later, I'm back on the chain. It's going to be a VERY long day.

9:00 A.M.

Several people have stopped by and donated.....HURRAH!

9:30 A.M.

I'm still ready to QUIT!
Shannon stops by who I had only met on the Internet. She had fostered a dog we have here. It's always nice to meet a friend!

Linda York visits!

Lots of people stopped by to visit! We also chucked as some ran past us!

10:10 A.M.

I've made it two hours. The wind kicks up and blows everything to pieces. Our donation bucket blows over and the lid pops off. Money is scattering across the parking lot. I'm chained....HELP! Two men walking by run gathering money and return it to the bucket. Bless their hearts!

10:30 A.M.

A gal stops by wanting me to do something about a chained dog in Debois, WY. Good grief, that town is 365 miles away! I give her literature and tell her to E-mail me with an address and I'll do what I can. She also tells me she is a dog breeder. Grrrrrr!

11:00 A.M.

Ronda comes back to relieve me so I can go potty!
Ronda Chained!

11:10 A.M.

Joan stops by to show me her baby girl who she adopted four years prior! THANK YOU Joan!

A news reporter shows up from the Wyoming Eagle-Tribune.....HURRAH!

3:15 P.M.

Still no TV news reporters so Ronda calls them on her cell phone.

3:35 P.M.

TV 5 news reporters show up....HURRAH!
TV 5 set up

4:00 P.M.

4:45 P.M.

Stacy and her cute daughter stop by to help load things up after making a donation....THANK YOU!

5:00 P.M.

We load things up and the owner of Capital Lumber Company matches our donations and signs a check to Pet Pals, Inc. THANK YOU, ED!

5:35 P.M.

Ronda, Stacy and I start loading pet food donated from the Cheyenne Animal Shelter. THANK YOU, Alan!

7:00 P.M.

I arrive back home very tired, swollen feet, sunburned resulting in chills and started returning the days phone messages.
After the calls, I sit down on the couch and doze off. Larry wakes me so I can see myself on TV.
THANK YOU TV 5. You did an EXCELLENT job covering our cause to get dogs off of chains.
Chris Jose, you were VERY sweet! You will go far in life.
Robert Geha, your kind words are VERY much appreciated.

July 4th

My neck still has sores from the heavy collar. I'm sun burned and exhausted. How someone can stand being chained for longer than 8 hours is beyond me.
NO wonder dogs go NUTS. If you have a dog on a chain, get it off NOW!

Thank you to all of you who made phone calls, wrote e-mails, gave donations or just stopped by to show support.
Special thanks to Ronda for all your help. You weren't supposed to be sitting down on the job! Get back in the dog house. Bad doggie!
Ronda
Also SPECIAL thanks to my husband, Larry, who puts up with me and all the critters!

Last, but certainly not least, is our hero, Tammy Grimes who leads the way!

Off to get some sleep. It's 3 A.M. This web page will have to be finished tomorrow!
